(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) – The Gus Macker Road Show will visit a number of Southfield schools today, April 9 and tomorrow April 10 as part of a promotional tour designed to introduce the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament that will take place June 27-29 at the Southfield Civic Center, in celebration of Southfield’s 50th Anniversary.
The show will mix good sportsmanship instruction among area youth with various athletic activities and will feature a Mini-Macker 3-on-3 exhibition tournament today at Beech Woods Recreation Center from 4-6 p.m., along with prize giveaways and a game by the Michigan Jr. Thunderbirds wheelchair basketball team. Tomorrow’s (April 10) itinerary will include visits to Schoenhals Elementary, 9:30 a.m.; Stevenson Elementary, 10:30 a.m.; and Laurus Academy, 1:00 p.m.
The Gus Macker organization is celebrating 35 years of bringing its nationally renowned tournament to over 75 cities throughout the United States and Canada. The basketball tournament series is one of the largest and most established in the country and registers tens of thousands of teams that participate annually throughout the summer season. The organization has also cultivated a reputation of philanthropy and benevolence through the donation of its proceeds to benefit regional and national charities.
