Southfield Parks and Garden Club to break ground on Emmanuel Community Farm March 27

(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) – The Southfield Parks and Garden Club will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Emmanuel Community Farm on Thursday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. The event will recognize the collaborative lease agreement between the Southfield Parks and Garden Club and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, located at 23425 Lahser Road north of Nine Mile Road.

The Farm will be an all-volunteer charitable endeavor that will use natural inputs and organic seed to grow a wide variety of produce, including potatoes, lettuce and tomatoes, that will be used to feed those in need.

“We are very excited about this non-denominational partnership with the church to provide a chance to bring fresh, wholesome vegetables to the tables of the hungry,” said Parks and Gardens Club President John Adams. “The farm is another testament to Southfield’s ongoing commitment to create a thriving and sustainable community through organic farming and environmentally-friendly gardening techniques.”

The ceremony will include brief remarks from City of Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence, Forgotten Harvest Executive Director Susan Goodell, Growing Hope Executive Director Amanda Edmonds and Emmanuel Community Church of Southfield Pastor David Maddox.

The Southfield Parks and Garden club is a grass-roots, community service organization comprised of volunteers who assist with plantings, landscape maintenance, litter pick-ups and other community appearance improvements throughout the City. The Club’s membership and projects reflect a cross-section of Southfield residents, skill levels and interests. The Club holds monthly meetings and work days March through October and is always looking for new members.

The ground breaking is free and open to the public. Call Jon Adams, president of the Southfield Parks and Garden Club, at (248) 356-2281, e-mail sfldparks@hotmail.com or visit www.parksandgarden.org for more information.
