
As part of the City of Southfield’s 50th anniversary celebration, the Commission on Senior Adults (COSA) crowned the Southfield Senior King and Queen for a Day at a luncheon held January 29 at the Adult Recreation Center 50+.
The winners included King Edward Hustoles, a 51 year resident, Queen Joan Boufford, a 36 year resident, and runners-up Madeline Barrett and Julia Eder. The winners were chosen from a pool of entrants who had to have at least 10 of residency and be at least 62 years of age. Prizes awarded to the king, queen and their court included gift certificates for area restaurants, gas cards and City of Southfield 50th anniversary commemorative items.
The Commission on Senior Adults (COSA) is a city commission that is concerned with quality of life issues for Southfield seniors. The Commission works with the City’s Human Services Department to present recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding senior adult community issues and concerns. COSA also monitors state and federal legislation and serves as an educational link to services and resources designed to support the senior community.
