Contest age requirement lowered and deadline extended
The city of Southfield is sponsoring the “Southfield’s Got Talent” competition as part of the City’s 50th anniversary celebration taking place throughout 2008.
The talent competition will showcase local musicians, singers, rappers, bands, and dancers who will compete for various prizes. The top 20 acts will perform for a selection committee in May, with the top five acts performing at the City’s Star Spangled Southfield Fireworks on June 25 before a panel of celebrity judges. Southfield’s Got Talent has added FOX 2 TV personality Jay Towers as one of its celebrity judges. Towers became known in the metro Detroit area as the voice of the 93.1 WDRQ Morning Show before joining the FOX 2 Weekend Show as a features/entertainment correspondent. Towers also worked a brief stint as mid-day host at Oldies 104.3 WOMC.
The first place winner will receive $500, a professionally produced demo DVD of their performance and a gift basket; the second place winner will receive $200; and the third place winners will receive $100. The competition is open to all artists 16 and older who live, work or attend school in Southfield. Performances should be “family-friendly” and not exceed five minutes in length. A completed registration form and DVD of the performance are required for entry. Artists in need of DVD production assistance can contact Southfield’s Millennium Centre at (248) 796-5191, who will produce a DVD for a nominal fee. Registration forms are available online at www.cityofsouthfield.com/talentshow or at the front desk of the City Hall main lobby. Completed registration forms and performance DVD’s may be mailed to the Community Relations Department, Attn: Talent Show, 26000 Evergreen Road, P.O.
