(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) – The Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force of Southfield will present “Truths and Myths about Diversity in the Community and Workplace,” on Wednesday, January 16 and January 23, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., in the Southfield Public Library Auditorium located at 26300 Evergreen.
The series is a two-part community forum designed to create dialogue regarding various socio-economic issues and corporate America’s responsibility to promote diversity in the workplace. The forums will be moderated by diversity consultant Stephanie English and are intended to compliment the MLK Peace Walk that takes place on January 21. The forums will focus on the principles of diversity, inclusion, equality and tolerance, which were key components of Dr. King’s vision and message.
“We wanted to present more than just the Peace Walk this year,” said MLK Task Force President Barbara Seldon. “We felt the walk was not enough and wanted to present programs that were reflective of Dr. King’s transcendent message. We hope to create an atmosphere of open dialogue and meaningful exchange between people from all cultures and walks of life.”
The forums are sponsored by a grant from the Hands on Network and Points of Light Foundation, two non-profit organizations that recently merged to form one of the largest volunteer organizations in the country. The foundation mobilizes tens of thousands of community volunteers annually from numerous non-profits, faith-based entities and community action groups to address social causes.
The forums are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Call MLK Taskforce President Barbara Seldon at (248) 358-0432 or MLK Vice-President Barbara Talley at (248) 569-9279 for further information.
