(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) - The Southfield City Council appointed Acting City Administrator Jim Scharret to the City Administrator position on January 7 for a two-year contract through December 31, 2009. Mr. Scharret will maintain his current salary of $136,605.
“I am very pleased with the unanimous appointment of Mr. Scharret,” commented City Council President Joan Seymour. “Mr. Scharret is a very capable and competent leader. He has an extensive finance background and a proven track record of establishing and maintaining solid financial management policies. I feel strongly that he is the right person to serve in this capacity during these challenging economic times.”
Mr. Scharret has been with the City for more than 30 years. He was appointed Director of Management and Budget in 1982. He served as the Deputy City Administrator/Fiscal Services Director since November of 2004 and as the Acting City Administrator since November of 2006. Mr. Scharret holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
The Southfield City Administrator is responsible for overseeing the City’s daily operations, conducting studies and making recommendations to the Mayor and City Council.
