Southfield City
Treasurer Irv Lowenberg will present Tips for the Educated Consumer
from the Better Business Bureau at the next Tuesday with the Treasurer
on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Southfield Public
Library auditorium located at 26300 Evergreen Road.
The program
will be hosted by Southfield City Treasurer Irv Lowenberg and will
include a presentation by Fred Hoffecker, president & CEO of the
Better Business Bureau of Eastern Michigan, about common scams targeted
at consumers, including what you can do to protect yourself and what to
do if you find yourself a victim. Mr. Hoffecker will also provide an
overview of the free services that the Better Business Bureau offers
followed by a question-and-answer forum.
National
Consumer Protection Week is February 4 – 10, 2007. This year’s theme is
“Read up and Reach Out: Be an Informed Consumer.” The Better Business
Bureau of Eastern Michigan is a non-profit organization with the
purpose of assisting in the protection of consumers and businesses from
fraud and unethical business practices in the local marketplace. In
addition to its recognized dispute resolution services, the Bureau
maintains reliability reports on the customer service history of more
than 60,000 local businesses and provides consumer education materials
on numerous topics. The Bureau provides its services free to the public
and its service territory stretches across Eastern Michigan from Ann
Arbor through Metropolitan Detroit, Lansing, Flint, upward to Alpena,
and covers the entire Upper Peninsula of the state.
