(SOUTHFIELD,
Mich.) – The city of Southfield will recognize several Southfield businesses with the City’s Standard
of Excellence Awards at the City Council Meeting on August 27. The program is designed to honor area businesses
that make valuable contributions to the local economy through their investment,
development and outreach in the community.
“The program is intended to honor
companies that exceeded community expectations,” said Rochelle Freeman, Southfield business development
manager. “The awards instill a great
sense of pride in the city and spur other businesses to take notice.”
The program will honor the efforts of law
firm Fieger, Fieger, Kenney, Johnson & Giroux and high-tech company Landon
IP, Inc. Fieger, Fieger, Kenney, Johnson
& Giroux recently completed a 20,000-square-foot renovation of their
offices located on 10 Mile Road
in Southfield.
The renovation includes a mock courtroom, television studio, waterfall, atrium,
expanded IT department, and expanded executive office space. The firm is the largest plaintiff’s firm in
the state with 17 attorneys and 60 support staff. The firm is known for consistently achieving
record-breaking, multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements and establishing
precedents in personal injury and civil rights litigation. Principal partner Geoffrey Fieger is
generally considered to have achieved more multi-million dollar verdicts and
settlements than any other U.S.
attorney.
Landon IP, Inc specializes in
professional patent and trademark searches, patent analytics and business
intelligence. The company monitors patents, trademarks, corporations,
inventors, industries and provides technical consulting to global corporations
and law firms. It currently serves 9,000
clients and is only one of two companies who in the last year were awarded a
major contract by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office to conduct patent
searches and initial patent examinations for the agency. With their move to Southfield, the company will create 300 new
professional jobs.
“Landon IP Inc. is opening an office in Southfield instead of opting for California, and will receive the Standard of Excellence Exemplary Job Creation award because of
hiring many auto-related engineers from the region,” added Freeman. “Fieger, Fieger, Kenney, Johnson & Giroux
will receive the Standard of Excellence
Redevelopment Award for expanding their headquarters in Southfield and bringing a high profile
element to the city. Both companies have
made a difference in the community and help to enhance our ability to attract
other businesses to Southfield.”
