(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) – Celebrate the opening of the Lodge Freeway and support The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign by walking the Lodge with City of Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence on Saturday, August 25.
Registration for the historic “Walk the Lodge” event will begin at 7 a.m. in the Macy’s parking lot at Northland Center followed by the approximately three mile walk across the new Lodge Freeway at 8:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Both runners and walkers are welcome; however, no skateboards, rollerblades or bikes will be allowed. Participants are requested to wear red to show support for the Heart Association’s Go Red movement.
Limited edition “I Walked the Lodge” commemorative t-shirts will be available for $5. The shirt proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign which focuses on women and heart disease. The walk is sponsored by the City of Southfield, the Michigan Department of Transportation, Northland Center, Fox 2, St. John Health System and Observer & Eccentric Newspapers.
