100 Days to Health 2007 events


The 100 Days to Health is a community-wide health education and awareness campaign designed to encourage healthy lifestyles. The City of Southfield, Providence Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have partnered together to promote healthy living and community wellness. Following is a partial listing of some of the many events associated with the campaign.

June

June 2 – “Passing on the Wisdom” A Grandmother/Mother/Daughter Luncheon
The program is intended to pass on to our younger women important facts that our mothers taught us, such as: self-respect, caring for our body and having dreams and attaining them. Keynote Speaker: Judge Shelia Johnson, 46th District Court. Providence Hospital Fisher Auditorium, 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., 16001 W. 9 Mile Rd. To register, call 1-888-440-7325.

June 10 – What Every Man Needs to Know and FREE Golf!
June is Men’s Health Month. In recognition of the occasion, 100 Days to Health is offering a FREE round of golf to all men who register and attend the “What Every Man Needs to Know,” health lecture. The 45-minute lectures will cover the importance of establishing a consistent exercise program, common sports injuries, arthritis and joint replacement. Lectures are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the golf course. Beech Woods Golf Course, 22202 Beech Road (just south of 9 Mile). Call 1-888-440-7325 to register your foursome.

June 11 – Mayor’s Walks begin at Inglewood Park, 6:45 a.m. warm-up, 7:00 a.m. walk (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through August 3).

June 21 – What Makes Healthy Communities Healthy?
Healthy Communities are distinctive. They have a vision for the future well-being of the total community – social, physical, environmental, educational and fiscal. Join us for a stimulating and engaging community discussion on how to create a stronger, vibrant and more healthy community. The event will be held at the Southfield Public Library, 26300 Evergreen Road, 7-9 p.m. FREE. Presented by Southfield Public Library, Southfield Community Foundation and Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

July
Mayor’s Walks continue at Inglewood Park, 6:45 a.m. warm-up, 7:00 a.m. walk (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through August 3).

July 7 – What Every Woman Needs to Know - and FREE Golf!
Let’s play golf! 100 Days to Health is offering a FREE round of golf to all women who register and attend the “What Every Woman Needs to Know,” health lecture. The 45-minute lectures will cover the importance of routine health checks, pre-menopause and menopause and prevention of heart disease. Lectures are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the golf course. Beech Woods Golf Course, 22202 Beech Road (just south of 9 Mile). Call 1-888-440-7325 to register your foursome.

August
Mayor’s Walks continue at Inglewood Park, 6:45 a.m. warm-up, 7:00 a.m. walk (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through August 3).

September
September 22 – Prostate Cancer Screening
The Annual FREE Prostate Screening will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon on the 1st floor of the Providence Cancer Center. The screening will involve a simple blood test and DRE. The Cancer Center is located on 22302 Foster Winter Drive, directly behind Art Van Furniture. Free parking available in back of building. To register, call 1-888-440-7325.
