City Administrator James G. Scharret has served the City of Southfield in varying capacities for 32 years. He has held the increasingly more responsible positions of Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Fiscal Services Director, and Deputy City Administrator. Mr. Scharret holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
As the City Administrator, Mr. Scharret is responsible for the day to day operations of the City. The Administrator is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the seven-member elected City Council. The role of the Administrator is to implement policies as determined by the City Council. He attends all City Council meetings and reports directly to the Council on all relevant matters of City business.
