This section is responsible for numerous support tasks vital to the Police Department.
Background InvestigationsStaff Services detectives conduct background checks at the request of the City Human Resources Department on people applying for employment with the City. Background checks also are performed on individuals requesting business and special licenses through the City Clerk's Office; and residents applying for state firearm permits and federal firearm licenses.
Intelligence This detective collects and analyzes information from a variety of sources; and disseminates information to police personnel.
Public Information Officer This detective has an ongoing cooperative relationship with the news media. Information is disseminated to the media on criminal incidents and community-related police programs, programs to address criminal activity, community safety issues, crime prevention tips and general interest stories.
Police Auto Pound
An officer is responsible for tracking vehicles from the time the Police Department takes custody, until they are legally disposed of or released back to the owner. These vehicles include those that are abandoned, involved in accidents, criminal activity, or traffic hazards.
Michigan Auto Lost & FoundCoordination of Police Training
A detective coordinates both intra-departmental training and in-service police training through regional police academies and private contractors.
Other activities facilitated through Staff ServicesThe section coordinates the repair and maintenance of the Police Department Building by the Facilities Maintenance Department; issuance and repair of police equipment; and is the police representative to the City Safety Committee.
