How often is the Parks & Recreation Activities Guide brochure published?
The Southfield Living magazine, which includes the Parks & Recreation Activities Guide, is published 2 times a year. Publication dates are generally late August and March. A PDF version of the current Parks & Recreation Activities Guide can always be found on the Parks & Recreation site under the Resources Panel.

How can I volunteer for a special event or program?

What is the age requirement to be considered a senior?
Southfield Parks & Recreation has established 55 years of age as its minimum age requirement to receive a senior discount.

I live in Lathrup Village, why do I have to pay a Non-Resident Fee?
Resident rates are given only to those individuals with a current Southfield mailing address/residence. In some rare cases (i.e. special events such as EGGS’travaganza or Daddy/Daughter Dinner & Dance) resident rates apply to individuals who attend Southfield Public Schools.

Are there scholarships available for camp programs or classes?
There are some scholarships available through the Parent Youth Guidance Commission of the Southfield Human Services Department. 

Is your camp program tax deductible?
Yes, our day camp programs are tax deductible. We urge each parent to keep a copy of you child’s camp registration form and receipt for each session attended.

How do I register my child for a sports league?
Athletic league registration must be done in person by the child’s parent or guardian, we do not accept mail-in or fax-in registration for athletic leagues.

The Resident Tree Program is handled by the City’s Forestry Division through the Department of Public Works. You may contact them at (248) 796-4634.

Do you offer golf classes?
Yes, please refer to the current P&R Activities Guide (pdf) for information concerning our year-round golf lessons.

Is there a food concession on site?
Yes, Sports Club Cafes are located at the Evergreen Hills Golf Course, Beech Woods Golf Course, Southfield Sports Arena and Beech Woods Recreation Center. Menus varies by location, but may include breakfast items, cheeseburgers, chicken wings, wrap sandwiches, salads and cold and hot beverages. More information on Golf Section

Pool


When does the pool open?
The Southfield Sports Arena Pool generally opens the second weekend in June.

How can I get a Season Pass for the pool?
Swim passes are available to Southfield residents or current
Business Leisure Card holders. You can purchase season swim passes at the Southfield Sports Arena office during regular business hours throughout the swim season.
 

Did You Know?

  • The Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for 780 acres of park land and open space at 33 sites throughout the City. Of the 780 acres of park land, over 333 acres are dedicated nature preserves.

  • The City of Southfield is home of Michigan’s first baseball field for children with any physical or mental disability. Working with The Miracle League, the City constructed a special field designed with a custom synthetic turf and handicapped accessible dugouts, restrooms and drinking fountains.
  • The Parks & Recreation Department offers hundreds of recreation programs at facilities which include two nine-hole golf courses, a lighted driving range, a 50-meter outdoor swimming pool, a senior adult center, an indoor athletic field house, an indoor ice arena and a neighborhood recreation center.

  • The Senior Gardens at the Mary Thompson Farm provide plots to over 100 enthusiastic gardeners who offer tours to school and scouting groups. The Senior Gardens have been recognized as one of the best community gardens in the nation by the John Deere Company and have received numerous awards from the Michigan State Fair.
