The City of Southfield Streets and Highway Maintenance Division provides 24/7 year-round services to citizens residing within the 24 square miles of Southfield. Our goal is to protect property and the environment by improving water quality and minimizing flooding. Normal operating times are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00AM and 4:00 PM. Staff are on –call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Division uses the latest technologies to inspect, maintain, and repair existing storm water drainage systems. Maintenance crews respond to drainage concerns reported within the City.  Drainage concerns are classified into two main categories (1) public drainage (2) private drainage.

  1. Public drainage system is considered a system that receives runoff from a publicly owned facility/property (e.g. roads, parks, etc.), even if it includes connections from private drainage systems.
  2. Private drainage system is considered a system that receives runoff from a privately owned facility/property (e.g. a private parking lot, building), or any structure that is not publicly owned.

The City maintenance crews maintain only public drainage systems. The operation and Maintenance Division will offer advice and /or technical support to implement solutions to your drainage problem as appropriate.
