9-1-1 Civilian Ops Division
Photo of Public Safety CommunicationsThe 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center is a consolidated emergency services answering point responsible for processing all emergency calls and the dispatching of all police, fire and medical emergency services for the City of Southfield and Lathrup Village. The division was formed in 1978 as one of the first civilian consolidated dispatch centers in the state of Michigan. All members of staff are non-sworn, meaning they are not police officers, deputies or fire fighters. The City’s highly trained 9-1-1 civilian communications staff assists the public and supports our emergency services responders 24 hours a day 365 days per year.

To provide improved services to the members of our community the 9-1-1 Emergency Communications staff maintains special information resources for citizens with special needs (pdf) and business contact information (pdf).

Civilian Support Administration


Civilian Support Administration provides technical support to 9-1-1, Police and Fire telecommunications, Public Safety technology and City-wide voice communications. All Police Freedom of Information requests are also handled through this office.
