The Department of Homeland Security

Advisory Threat Level

Note: The threat level may be higher in certain locations in other parts of the country, i.e.: airports, ports of entry.
The Department of Homeland Security has set the current local Threat Level at "YELLOW."

In order to prepare for possible threats, the Department of Homeland Security maintains the Advisory Threat Level as a form of early warning. The threat levels are color coded either GREEN - low risk, BLUE - guarded risk, YELLOW - elevated risk, ORANGE - high risk, or RED - highest risk, severe. Your public safety agencies will adjust activities as required.

We all should know how to Plan and Prepare for natural or man-made disasters (such as severe weather, tornados, etc.). Citizens and area residents should obtain informational handouts provided by the Southfield Emergency Management Division and placed at city distribution points such as: City Hall lobby, Parks and Recreation lobby, the Library, McDonnell Towers Senior Center, and the Career Center at John Grace School. These handouts include details and answers to the much asked question, "What can I do to help myself and my family or friends to prepare for changes in the current Threat Level ?" You can also call the Emergency Management office on (248) 796-5990 to request copies. Please leave your name and address and a copy will be mailed to you.

Using the "Threat Level Guideline" is only part of the answer to being prepared. Realistically, you should be preparing for any possible threats we may encounter in Michigan. Please use the attached Disaster Survival pages to become better prepared.

What Else Can You Do?:

  • STAY INFORMED
  • TAKE “THREAT LEVEL ADVISORIES” SERIOUSLY
  • MAKE A DISASTER PLAN
  • CREATE A DISASTER KIT
  • DON’T BE AFRAID - BE PREPARED
